SMS Fraud Report - Recent Findings & How we can fight back against latest criminal activity

In response to rising levels of messaging fraud on international networks, Openmind have recently conducted in-depth research into the techniques criminals are using now to target subscribers and to bypass security measures introduced by Operators.

Our main findings were that the use of geofencing by fraudsters attempting to hide their tracks was on the increase, and we also noticed an accelerated use of well-established URL shortener providers such as t.co, bit.ly, cut.ly and t.ly in Fraudulent SMS.

Savvy consumers may notice that the URL is redirected to an unexpected domain in China or Russia, however the fraudster is relying on consumers who don’t check this, and fall victim to their scam.

Join us as we discuss in more detail how these criminals operate, and how by working together we can combat their fraudulent activities and stay one step ahead.
