2-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security process in which a user provides two different authentication factors to very their identity. These factors typically fall into one of three categories:

1. Knowledge Factors: Something the user knows, such as a password or PIN
2. Possession Factors: Something the user possesses, such as a mobile device, security token, or smart card
3. Biometric Factors:Something inherent to the user, such as fingerprints or facial recognition

The idea behind 2FA is to add an extra layer of security beyond just a username and password. Even if one factor is compromised (e.g. a password is stolen), an attacker would still need the second factor to gain access. This helps enhance the overall security of online accounts, systems, or sensitive information. Common implementations of 2FA include receiving a code on a mobile device, using a biometric scan, or inserting a physical security key.
