In this blog post, we talk to Padraig Corcoran about his career to date, and what a typical day looks like for a member of the Engineering Team at Openmind Networks.
Can you describe your role at Openmind Networks and what you do on a typical day?
I’m a QA Engineer. My role focuses on ensuring that the products and services we deliver at Openmind meet the highest standards of quality. My day starts with two standups: one with the QA Team to discuss progress and blockers, and another with the Fraud and Cybersecurity Team. This cross-team collaboration keeps me informed about changes in Smart Services. Afterwards, I test TC-6000‘s latest changes. Once they pass testing and meet quality standards, they are released to customers.
What do you like about your job?
My favorite aspect of my job is the people. I work across three teams daily: QA, Fraud and Cybersecurity, and CI/CD. Each team has great people with vast amounts of knowledge. Having team mates you can trust and that are always available to help you makes work so much easier and more fulfilling.
Can you describe a project or task you worked on that you are particularly proud of?
I’m proud of the CI/CD team and its evolution over the last couple of years. I joined Openmind as a graduate straight out of college. Openmind trusted me and another graduate to take ownership of planning and performing customer upgrades when we were just over a year into our careers. To see what we started now grow into a full CI/CD team working on continuously improving our customers’ experience is something that I’m very proud of.
Can you share a memorable moment or experience that you’ve had while working here?
Winning Dublin Employee of the Year a couple of years ago was a great moment. To receive that kind of recognition from the company was very special for me.
How would you describe Openmind’s culture and values?
I think our five core values: Own It, Care for It, Live It, Master It and Evolve It are exhibited by everyone. Working with these values in mind has given us a culture where we are pushing our products and services to constantly improve, while showing care for each other and our customers, making it a great place to work.
What’s one thing that pleasantly surprised you about working at Openmind?
When I first joined Openmind, it surprised me how open and receptive the entire company was to changes and suggestions. Openmind is 20 years in business this year and has a team with a huge wealth of experience. It was clear immediately that your thoughts and opinions mattered no matter your tenure or experience.
What do you appreciate most about your working environment?
In the Engineering Team, while we’re split between Dublin and Prague, distance does not affect our effectiveness. I appreciate how open and friendly everyone is. No one is afraid to ask questions and everyone is more than happy to help each other. This lends to a fantastic, collaborative environment.
